    Capcom did the same thing with the Alpha series too IMO - Alpha 2 seems to have great presentation with stages and arcade mode art while 3 gets funkier with the music and gameplay but strips back a lot of the stages to their bare essentials and makes everyone's story end with fighting Bison, which is kinda dumb.
